This genre of Sims engages the user in an unfolding sequence of animated scenes within a story or event. The user is able to influence and even determine the flow of the story by making choices and decisions at different points. At these points the flow of the story will follow different branches.
These Simulations are very easy to use and to deploy. There is a very low learning curve for users of all ages and ability. However, they are often criticised for the simple decision making interface and relatively low levels on non-linearity. Developing more complex branching stories requires a relatively high degree of effort as more and more ‘nodes’ are added to the story tree and must then be scripted and developed.
For these reasons, it is often asserted that more advanced or creative users within a domain maybe less suited to Branching Story Sims; whereas they may be most suitable for new entrants or low level learners.
